as Erzurum and Kars get snow for ninety days in a year. Snow here

The view of the mountain ranges here is extremely pleasing for the

Eastern Anatolia is rich in economic activities such as agriculture
and husbandry. There is a lot pasture here in this region because of
the number of animals present here. What many do not know is that
the Eastern Anatolia contributes in producing one fourth of the
total animal products production in Turkey.

The lands that are suitable for agriculture are short here in this
region. Wheat, barley, sugar beets, cotton and Tabaco are produced
here. A sad thing is that fruits do not grow here because due to
weather conditions. There are no fruit trees but still the natives
of region have managed to grow fruits on the hollow plains.
The highlands in the north side are known by the name of Turkey’s
Siberia. The mountain ranges stretching from the north to the south
consist of barren lands. At the foot of the lofty ranges lie the
fertile basins of the region. As the climate conditions of this
region are not that much suitable for living, the population in this
area is not much dense.
The locals here earn income from stockbreeding. This is the most
unemployed region of Turkey. The major provinces of Eastern Anatolia
are Malatya, Bingol, Kars, Van, Ardahan, Erzurum, Mus, Elaziq, Iqdir,
Hakkari, Aqri, Bitlis.
Some of the popular lakes of the region are Van Golu (Turkey’s
largest lake), Ercek, Nazik, Balik, Hazar, Cildir. The popular
rivers of Eastern Anatolia include Kura, Dicle, Firat, Zap and Aras.
