ORNITHOLOGY IN TURKEY

Orinthology is the sport and study of bird-watching and observation, and is a favored past-time of everyone from the casual vacationer, to scientific research institutes such as the Cornell Ornithology Lab.

Many people enjoy following the migration patterns of birds, trying to spot as many species as they can, and drawing or taking pictures of particularly beautiful specimens that they find. And more and more, these birdwatchers are finding themselves drawn to Europe and the country of Turkey.

Ornithology, is becoming huge in the country of Turkey in recent years. One of the country's fastest growing activities, bird observation groups have been established in almost all of Turkey's major cities, sharing resources and registries as well as information about where to find the best birds.

The country's location on major bird immigration routes and it's access to wide-spread marsh lands make Turkey a prime spot for observing many different species at important points in their migration. During the busiest part of the bird watching seasons (typically the autumn and spring) there are traveling species of birds all through Istanbul, the Straits, and particularly the North East Anatolia region.
