There are many Turkish Traditional instruments which have made the
ancient country music of the place as a worldwide revolution. The
Tar which is a stringed instrument is a major musical device which
has been invented by the early civilization of Anatolia.
The tar is played by plucking the attached strings in different
patterns which creates melodies. The folk culture of Turkey has
found its existence Turku (song). The music created by playing this
stringed device is extremely romantic and for that reason it is
often used to play with poems of love and romance in the Bithynia
region (an ancient country in northwestern Asia Minor in what is now
Turkey; was absorbed into the Roman Empire by the end of the 1st
century BC).
The Tar requires the use of a plectrum by which the strings
are plucked. It is a special attraction of the Kars area in Turkey.
The wood from mulberry tree is used from the past to make this
instrument which has a double bowl shape. The upper half called
gogus (chest) is wrapped up by a thin film of covering from cattle
or water buffalo's heart.
The lower part which is known as the Sap (neck) is a complete hard
wooden block which has pitches attached to it made from fish bones.
This traditional musical instrument is a part of every joyous
occasion to play music of celebration in Turkey called Halay.
The Malveli folk tune which is music for dancing is also
played with the help of Tar. This type of composition is found in
the states of Aydin, Van and Mugla. The strings on this instrument
have been separated into two categories. The first part is of three
sections with two strings each. This part is used for making pre
tuned sounds which act as fillers. The second half of the set of
strings is known as Kok which can be customized and set as per the
mode requirement of the sound.
