The Tar has a long neck with two round hollowed-out
sections that make up the a body. Finding its roots in regions
influenced by the Persian Empire, it's name literally means 'string'
and the instrument is believed to be the forefather and origin of
today's guitar.
The Tar is commonly made from mulberry wood with lamb skin stretched
across the hollowed-out sections of the instrument. There are 25 to
28 adjustable frets along the neck of the Tar and its six strings
are paired in three groups of two. The melodies performed on the tar
were so melodic that listening to it's music was recommended for
centuries to treat such maladies as headaches, insomnia, even
nervousness and muscle spasms.
