THE BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPES OF MARMARA

THE BEAUTIFUL LANDSCAPES OF MARMARA

The area has a varied landscape of mountainous parts, plains, seacoast, forest and steppes. It is the tiniest part of Turkey except for South-Eastern Anatolia and these plains are more populated than other sections of Marmara. The Marmara region encompasses all of the European section of Turkey. This includes the Marmara Sea and the northwest part of the Anatolian Plain. The highest mountain peak is the Uludag at a height of 2543 meters. This is one of the main tourist and sports areas.

The fecund plains going east to west is part of the Anatolian section. The Aegean region runs from its coast into western Anatolia. The rivers Gediz, Bakircay, and Kucuk Menderes run through the plains, which have identical names. The agriculture in the Marmara region is fertile growing wheat, rice, natural silk, olives, corn, tobacco, and sunflowers. The fishing industry along the Marmara Sea is very productive.

Marmara is the rudiment or foundation of Turkey because of its northwestern position, which connects the European and Asian parts and divides the nation itself. Istanbul rest on two different continents and no other city can make this claim. It stretches across both sides of the Bosphorus Strait. The European side is named Thrace and the Asian side is called Anatolia. Thrace and Anatolia are divided by the inland section of the Marmara Sea. The Dardanelles Strait connects Aegean Sea and the Marmara Sea.

The Marmara Sea is girdled by these lakes: the Iznik, Sapanca, Ulubat, Manyas, Buyukcekmece Kucukcekmece, and Terkos. The weather along the coast is moderate, while inland regions experience hot and cold weather changes.

On the European side people enjoy the cooling effect of the Belgrade Forest, relaxing in its shade and having picnics during weekend excursions. There are numerous natural springs and and seven archaic reservoirs. These natural phenomenon freshen the air and make the area more comfortable.

The southern shoreline along the coast of the Sea of Marmara has a resort named Yalova; the Romans used to visit there and indulge in the thermal baths to cure their rheumatism or for relaxation. The major resort not far from town has a lovely garden setting for the bath. The Cinnarcik resort area boast gorgeous beaches.
